THE CROSS OF CHRIST
1. The cross of
Christ shall ever be my boast and pride,
Tho' there be times
the heavy weight seems hard to bear,
But long has since
this pilgrim journey testified:
Only the cross can
heal the wound of deep despair,
Sparrows can find a
place of quiet rest;
Swallows can build
for their young ones a nest.
Now by the cross I
have come thro' this heav'nly gate.
Therefore my heart
is filled with peace and songs of praise.
2. The cross of Christ
shall ever be my boast and pride,
Tho' there be times
tears from within may dim my eyes,
But in this vale, a
spring shall flow to calm my sighs;
For Thou art mine,
my strength, my heart, my very life.
Yes, Lord, through
these summer and winter times,
Oh what contentment
filled with mirth is mine.
Trusting the cross
shall be my cause for endless joy;
Therefore my heart
shall bless Thy name with cheerful voice!
3. The cross of
Christ shall ever be my boast and pride,
Tho' there be times
my feet be burned from painful strides,
But here I hear Thy
tender voice so sweetly guides;
Only the cross
gives shelter in this desert land.
How fresh and clear
Thy spring with ease has flown.
Drink to the full,
O dry and weary soul!
Drawn to the cross
my strength can be revived once more;
Therefore my heart
shall flood with praises evermore!
4. The cross of
Christ shall ever be my boast and pride,
Tho' there be times
my heart's so burdened with complaints.
Suddenly then, Thy
glory 'fore my eyes appears;
The cross now brings
me to behold Thee face to face.
And there I kiss
the imprint of Thy feet;
Thy every step has
paved a path for me.
O blessed cross,
Thy glory has now filled my heart;
Therefore I sing
for I have won the crown of Life!
